Hello,
out there. I'm Brad Burg, a
writer and songwriter; this site is mostly
for my book of graphic (concrete) poetry for
children, Outside The Lines: Poetry At
Play. That's the cover, over there, next to my daughter
Allison.
The book is from
Penguin Putnam, with illustrations by Rebecca Gibbon.
It's a Blue Ribbon award-winner for 2002
(nonfiction), chosen by the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books. It
also received great reviews ("Sparkling!" "Delightful!"
"Exuberant!").
(My mother said, "Don't brag," but my father
said, "You have to toot your own horn." Yes, he actually
said "Toot." He was from Texas, which may be
relevant.)
Here are some things on this site (for
more details, click
here):
For
kids*: See what graphic
(concrete) poetry is; maybe write some. Coming soon: A few
general thoughts about writing poetry. *And teachers, of
course.
For kids and grownups: See pages from Outside The Lines: Poetry At
Play -- and hear songs based on the
poems
Mostly
for grownups: Join the (more-or-less) Great
Concrete/Graphic Debate. Check out a few other good sites (and
suggest more)
