 Why call words stone, which spring likegrass      .           


if poems use words

to form a shape
that our eyes can see,|
Then why not callthem
PICTURE POEMS -- or 
GRAPHIC POETRY? .

     . . .from winter’s grey, all light and green!           -                 


CONCRETE’S good for
sidew
alks, blocks
and pavements, good for
bricks
and roads,
 but poems
are made
of words, not rocks,
and carry thoughts,
not
heavy loads

        Despite slabs, bricks or blocks, words pass-       -

who wants to read

a CONCRETE poem?

why should feelings,
written down,
by such
a cold grey

ame be known?
